Painting with Purpose

Painting with Purpose

Hey Ya’ll!  Happy Monday (or whatever day you are reading this).

Have you ever sat with yourself and wondered what your purpose is?  I mean, sure, we can all say that raising our children is a purpose, running a home, being a productive member of society….those are all purposes but what I am talking about is different.  Have you found the purpose that sets your soul on fire?  Something that you give to the world with your whole heart and soul?  The blessing you get back when you find your purpose is complete satisfaction in knowing that you did that.  You contributed.  You made a difference.

I have found that my purpose, my calling in life, is random acts of kindness.  Nothing fills me up more than doing something for someone with absolutely no expectation of them returning the favor.  In many cases, I do acts of kindness in ways that the person receiving the kindness doesn’t even know who I am.  I try to do at least one act a day, and it can be anything from picking up the tab for the car behind me at a drive through to helping an elderly person to the car with their groceries to leaving a sweet treat on the desk of a random coworker who wasn’t expecting it!  I constantly write little notes and leave them all around the world, notes of encouragement, sometimes a poem…a joke…whatever I think will put a smile on someone’s face.

My biggest act of kindness started about 10 years ago when a friend of mine who was dealing with domestic violence reached out to me for help.  At the time, I had no idea how to help or what to do…I just knew I had to do something.  Through the process of helping her, I found that there are many roadblocks for women escaping abuse and that causes them in many cases to return to their abuser.  It is overwhelming to be alone, isolated, broke, hopeless, desperate.  There are so many things that have to happen when you escape.  You need housing, a job, a bank account, food, clothes, day to day living expenses.  It adds up.

I have made it my life’s work to help these ladies in whatever ways that I am able.  When you purchase a painting or a membership with Wild Brush Paint Parties, a portion of the proceeds goes towards providing hope to the women who come to me for help.  By helping them get back on their feet, we are able to give them the security they need and prevent them from returning to their abuser.

Every time I successfully help a woman and her child escape the abuse, the intimidation, the fear, the toxicity they live in…I feel so fulfilled.  I wish I could help every woman and every child.  The hardest thing is realizing I am just one person….but together, our impact is greater.  We can reach more.

The world is not ours to save, but we can make a difference together.

Thank you for every dime you contribute, and I pray that your goodness is returned to you in meaningful ways.

See ya on Friday!
